Schengen

> Schengen

On December 21, 2007, the Slovak Republic joined the Schengen area. This is an indication of the territory within which there are no border controls on borders. The change significantly affects the border crossings on Motorways and I. class roads in the corridor of Expressways under the management of the NDS. Areas of border crossings, however, have not been transferred to the assets of NDS yet.

What is necessary to know to travel in Schengen area:

For vehicles crossing the borders, it is not needed at the internal borders of Member States to stop and submit travel documents. In case of citizens from third countries, a close inspection is made if all terms for entry into the Schengen area at the external borders of member countries were fulfilled.

Note: Not all EU countries are part of the Schengen area. External borders, therefore, are also upheld among some EU countries. In some parts of the Schengen area, there are also some countries that are not EU Member States.

EU members:

Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Spain, Sweden.
*Iceland and *Norway,

Note: Member states of Schengen area are in bold
Marked with an asterisk are non-EU countries which are members of the Schengen area

The regime change was the date of accession of Slovakia to the Schengen area at the border crossings, which is under the management of NDS:
